Spurs 116, Warriors 111

Darius Washington scored 18 points, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Golden State Warriors 116-111 in an exhibition game Thursday night despite sitting most of their starters.

Manu Ginobili had 16 points and Francisco Elson added 15 for the Spurs.

Baron Davis, Marco Belinelli, Al Harrington and Kelenna Azubuike all had 17 points for the Warriors. Harrington also grabbed 14 rebounds.

Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Bruce Bowen were among the Spurs who didn't dress. Also sitting it out was Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who was at the AT&T Center but didn't run the show. Instead, Mike Budenholzer, his new top assistant since P.J. Carlesimo's departure for the Seattle SuperSonics, stepped in for the night.

On Golden State's side, Davis and Stephen Jackson played, but put in relatively limited minutes. Both sat out the second quarter. Monta Ellis (neck sprain) and Andris Biedrins (sprained big toe) also were out for the Warriors.

But even without the core starters, Washington and Ginobili did a pretty good job of it by themselves for San Antonio. Ginobili hit all six of his free throws and went 5-for-10 from the field in 24 minutes.

Even after Ginobili threw the ball out of bounds on a bad pass four minutes into the third quarter, causing him to clench his fists and yell, he made up for it by twisting in the lane for a layup on the next possession to put the Spurs up 69-66 with 7:19 left in the period.

Washington's 3-pointer with 5:22 to go gave the Spurs a 99-98 lead, but Golden State tied it at 109 on Mickael Pietrus' 3 from the corner. Washington, signed to the team's training camp roster, followed with six free throws in the final 40 seconds and Harrington's emphatic dunk with 15 ticks on the clock couldn't do it for the Warriors.

Golden State led 37-36 after one quarter and at halftime it was 55-54 for San Antonio. The back-and-forth first half had nine lead changes and four ties.

After being down by as many as 10, the Warriors built a small lead late in the third as Harrington scored all of his eight third-quarter points, including two 3-pointers, in the last 3:29.

The Warriors hit five treys in the quarter and headed into the fourth up 86-80. They finished 12-for-30 from beyond the arc, while the Spurs were 5-for-12.

Three other Spurs -- Michael Finley, Williams and Keith Langford -- scored in double digits.

Jackson had 11 points for Golden State.
